'Cruel Summer' Season 2 Gets New Storyline, Announces Entirely New Cast!

We have finally have a new update on the second season of Cruel Summer!

The first season of the Freeform series was a massive hit for the network, and it was then renewed for a second season.

Even though season two was announced, it wasn’t clear if it would be a new story with the same actors or a new story with a new cast.

Now, it’s just been revealed that it will definitely be a new story, a whole new cast, and even a new showrunner!

According to THR, the new cast includes Sadie Stanley, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore, Paul Adelstein and newcomer Eloise Payet.

UPDATE: Lexi Underwood has joined the cast, taking over a role in a re-casting after the table read.

This also serves as a Private Practice reunion for KaDee, Griffin and Paul.

Elle Triedman, from Siren, will serve as the new showrunner, taking over from Tia Napolitano.

“After getting season two of Cruel Summer up and running, Tia Napolitano has stepped back from the show, and as such, will no longer be serving as showrunner,” a rep for the show told THR. “Tia has been instrumental in the success of the show and will remain an executive producer.”

As for the plot of season two, it will be set in a waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest.

The series “follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.”

Filming on the season begins TODAY (April 21), with a premiere set for later this year!
