While chatting with TV Guide, the -year-old actress opened up about stepping behind the camera and how she prepared to direct and pull double duty as an actress.
The biggest hurdle for her personally was having to direct herself!
“I did not enjoy it, which is something you don’t know until you try it,” Danielle shared. “It’s these big cortex scenes with everybody in them, so it was certainly a challenge to try and set everything up because we’re working with three cameras and to not be able to sit behind the monitors and sit and watch to make sure we were getting things.”
She continues, “So, I was trying to pay attention while I’m in the scene and also trying not to forget my lines. It was certainly a challenge, but I made it through.”
As for how she prepared, Danielle shared that she “asked for advice from every director I ran into for a year.”
“Ever since I knew I’d be directing an episode, I was like, ‘What are your tips? What do I do? How do I succeed?’ I’ve been very lucky in my career — obviously over the past few years, I’ve been incredibly supported by my Flash family and everyone who works there as I’ve tried to learn and understand more,” she says.
Danielle adds, “One of the first things I ever did was a miniseries for HBO, and I remember the director of that miniseries, Fred Schepisi, allowed me to watch him edit. He was watching dailies, and that was a wildly informative experience for me, because as an actor you’re sometimes so focused on your own performance that it’s sometimes hard to see the impact of what you’re doing in a larger sense. So I’ll never forget watching him edit, and it’s certainly changed and shaped me as an actor.”

Her second pick went to Tom Cavanagh, who currently stars in a movie series called Darrow & Darrow.
Danielle‘s final pick was Wally West portrayer Keiynan Lonsdale.

Danielle Panabaker is celebrating the official start day for her directorial debut!
The 31-year-old actress shared her thoughts on Instagram as she got started in her new career behind the camera on The Flash.
“I’ll always remember this time in my life as incredibly powerful,” Danielle wrote. “Today, I begin directing my first episode ever. The Flash has very much operated as family to me these past five years, so to be able to direct on this show is extremely close to my heart and a bucket list moment for me.”
She added, “Thank you to Todd Helbing and @GBerlanti for the opportunity and to the entire team for their constant support – I’m extremely grateful. Working with a network who understands the power of inclusivity in storytelling is something I will never take for granted. Excited for you all to see episode 518! #TheFlash.”
The actress, who plays Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost on the series, shared with fans that her husband, Hayes Robbins, got her roses for good luck.
“My husband bought me flowers as I’m about to direct my first episode of #TheFlash…Yet, all I can think about is the irony of him giving me roses on Bachelor Monday 😂,” she joked on Twitter.

Danielle Panabaker is set to direct an upcoming episode of The Flash, and is opening up about getting behind the camera for the first time.
“I am most nervous about the script I’ll get, because I think in television, particularly, the script really dictates so much of what your episode is gonna be,” the actress shared with ET. “So I’m nervous to see what that is, what my storyline is, who my bad guy is, what superpowers we’re dealing with, but honestly, I’m really excited.”
Danielle adds, “I’m trying to learn as much as possible in the meantime, and just be as prepared as possible for when my opportunity comes.”
The episode that Danielle will be directing is episode #18, which will air in February.
“It’s all a new and exciting challenge for me, so I’m excited to take it one scene at a time and see how it all goes”, she continued. “I’m excited to have my chance at hopefully doing an action sequence with special effects.”
