Gabby Douglas shows off her perfect landing form in this shot from her feature in W Magazine.
The 20-year-old gymnast is headed to Rio for her second Olympic Games and opened up about her chances of a repeat performance as the All-Around champion.
“I don’t see it as pressure, I see it as such a great opportunity,” Gabby shared. “Everything is going really well and my body and my mind are in a good place. Why not give it all another chance? I just to make the best out of it.”
Thinking about after the games, Gabby knows exactly what she wants to do: “Once I am done with gym, we will do outrageous things. Nothing too outrageous, but I will be allowed to do more. I love roller coasters. There is one by where I train, a ride called the Millennium, and it goes like 90 miles per hour and it’s straight up and straight down and it is so much fun.”
JJJ isn’t going to lie — Gymnastics at the Olympics is possibly our favorite to watch and we’re super excited to watch both the women and men’s teams in Rio!
“I’m excited to be debuting my @Barbie Shero doll! Let’s continue to break barriers and dream big Girls! #YouCanBeAnything #Shero,” the 20-year-old athlete wrote as she unveiled the doll on Instagram.
Gabby added in a statement, “I love a challenge. I love to push limits and I love that my very own Barbie celebrates me for being a role model to girls. Being honored as a Barbie Shero further motivates me to inspire girls by being the best I can be.”
The fashions for the doll were inspired by Douglas’ own signature GK leotard line that she wears while training hard in the gym. Dressed in a red, white and blue Gabby GK Elite leotard, the doll comes complete with a Nike warm-up suit. The doll is fully articulated, allowing her to do almost all of the moves Gabby performs.
Now, the ladies are taking to social media to react to the news that they’ll be competing in Rio next month!
“Your 2016 Olympic team baby!!!!,” Aly wrote on her Instagram. Lauren wrote a heartfelt note on Instagram, and also posted a fun video of the ladies dancing after hearing the news: “Extremely honored to say I’ll be representing team USA at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. I want to thank God, cause with God nothing is impossible. I definitely want to thank @maggiehaney26 for staying by my side since 2005 and dealing with me every day in the gym haha! As much as a sacrifice I make for this sport, you make as much for me every day and I’m so grateful. S/o to my family and friends for being so supportive of me for the past few years; and all the doctors that have helped me stay in one piece! I can’t wait to take on this new chapter in my life!”
Gabby posted a photo of the Olympians, captioning the Instagram, “2016 Olympians.”
Simone took to Twitter and put out some retweets and thanks to those sending their congrats.
“this is going to be an emotional weekend,” Simone had tweeted ahead of the first day of competition.
The Women’s Gymnastics team will join the Mens’ — Sam Mikulak, John Orozco, Chris Brooks, Jake Dalton and Alex Naddour — in Brazil for competition in August.
Simone Biles and Aly Raisman leap into the air for their floor routines during the 2016 U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Olympic Trials held at SAP Center on Friday night (July 8) in San Jose, Calif.
“Me and all the girls, we were talking about, lets just pretend it’s the P&Gs, that’s it, and you know it’s just another meet,” Lauren shared after the competition. “This will not change anything, you’ve just got to go out there and you’ve got to give it your all.”
