'American Idol' Winner Maddie Poppe Talks What to Expect on Debut Album

It’s been a week since Maddie Poppe won the comeback season of American Idol and she’s already talking about her debut album.

The 20-year-old singer hopes that her album will reflect just who she is and how she presented herself on the show.

“I want to stick with doing the vein I stuck with on the show,” she told TV Line. “I didn’t realize how far that would take me in the competition, but now I realize that’s enough. I really want to keep being true to what I want to do. I don’t want to get caught up in the other things that sometimes come from being in the music industry.”

We can’t wait to listen to her album whenever it comes out!

Caleb added, “I MET KEVIN JONAS!!!! What a cool dude, I’ve been so impressed by the Jo-Bros thus far. Also look at the dime on the far left, holy cow!”

This isn’t the first JoBro that Maddie and Caleb have met though! They both got to meet Nick Jonas while he was a mentor on American Idol earlier this year.

A year ago I was lost and uncertain how I would be able to make this happen for myself. I cried and worried and wondered if this dream would ever pan out for me.”

She adds, “So many times I contemplated giving up, but at the last second my saving grace came through when @americanidol dropped into my life. Not only has this show given me a platform to build my career on, but it has given me countless lifelong friends who I’ll love and cherish forever.”

Maddie also gave a sweet shoutout to boyfriend, and runner-up, Caleb Lee Hutchinson.

“This guy captured my heart from the start and showed me what love truly means,” Maddie says. “I’ve never cared for or adored another person so much, @calebleemusic you mean so much to me and I’m so blessed to be able to have had you alongside me throughout this journey and hopefully for many more moons to come, xo.”

Maddie Poppe Drops New Single 'Going Going Gone' Just Before Winning 'American Idol'!

Congrats is in order for Maddie Poppe – she just won American Idol last night (May 21)!

“I don’t have many words to say I just, I feel so overwhelmed,” the 20-year-old singer shared afterwards.

Maddie adds, “I just can’t even believe, you know I felt like I was kind of an underdog for a while. I really did because my music is not mainstream, and so to know that I pulled this off just doing what I love and I didn’t have to change myself is pretty incredible.”

“The thing is I remember a year ago I was playing in a coffee shop for six people, and I just, I wanted to give up,” she recalled. “I didn’t see this going anywhere and I was afraid, and just to know a year later if I could go back and tell myself, you’re the winner of ‘American Idol,’ I wouldn’t believe it.”

Just a few days ahead of her win, Maddie dropped her debut single, “Going Going Gone” that you can listen to below and download it now on all digital retailers!
