I. Marlene King has high hopes for The Perfectionists, the second spinoff series for Pretty Little Liars.

In a new interview with The Wrap, the showrunner is opening up about her big picture vision for the show.

“I think we have just a richness of opportunity in this new world,” Marlene says. “I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are so many great characters and such a rich woven story that there’s going to be tentacles from this first story that go one for a long time with plenty of twists and turns.

She continued, “With Pretty Little Liars, I thought that we’d be lucky to go for five seasons, so to get to go for seven, honestly, I just give so much credit to the fans and to the actors.”

Marlene even says that there could be more spinoffs in the future.

“I feel like there’s absolutely a world [where that’s possible],” she says. “There were all these meetings about ‘should it be Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists or PLL The Perfectionists‘ and then someone explained to me that if we want more to come, it should have a colon.”

“So we’re definitely open to expanding the universe. It’s so much fun to play in this world, so I’m always open to new ideas and new tentacles to explore.”

The Perfectionists airs Wednesdays on Freeform.

You wouldn’t think that the famous pie scene with Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish would actually have a funny back story – considering it’s a scene with Ali and Mona – but it does!

In an interview with EOnline, Sasha opened up about her fave scene from the premiere of The Perfectionists and it was that one, all because of that pie.

“The pie was a disaster,” Sasha reveals. “It would not cut, or it would cut through the entire pie box and then we wouldn’t be able to lift it.”

She added though, “Janel and I had so much fun filming that scene.”

Sofia Carson is talking all about who Ava Jalali is after the premiere of The Perfectionists last night on Freeform.

Talking with multiple press outlets, the 26-year-old actress opened up about Ava’s motives, her family situation and more.

“Ava’s journey is a roller coaster,” Sofia shared with Bustle. “Marlene said that to me, ‘Get ready and hold on tight, because it’s a roller coaster.’ So much happens, good and bad, but I love seeing how she perseveres and survives despite everything.”

Sofia added that “Ava’s story to me is a story of an unstoppable and invincible girl who against all odds, against loss, against losing everything and everyone she is determined to survive. And not only survive, but to prove to herself and to the world that she’ll be able to be anything she strives to be.”

Ava was romantically involved with Nolan, which Sofia says she’s in “complete mourning, [and] was just destroyed” over his death.

“Even though she lost Nolan, that’s a part of her story, but it’s not her story. She has so much more to say.”

Showrunner I. Marlene King also opened up about Ava’s broken family life, as her parents left her behind to flee from the FBI.

“She brings a lot of depth to this world. Her character really is like an onion that we’re going to peel back the layers from, little, by little, by little until we really get to know her more,” she shared.

One of the biggest questions every Pretty Little Liars fan had when it was revealed that just Alison (Sasha Pieterse) would be headed to The Perfectionists, is what actually happened with her and Emily (Shay Mitchell)?

Well, we finally have an answer.

Almost immediately, we learned that trust was a big issue in the couple taking time apart from each other and Alison accepting the job offer at Beacon Heights University.

“Emily loves me. She just can’t get past the past,” she told Mona over pie. The couple are happy, but “then we’re not. It always comes back to trust.”

“We’ll explore that a little more [of what happened with the couple],” showrunner I. Marlene King shared with TVLine.

She adds, “When we left them, they were so happy. What would truly break them apart? When we looked back at the show, the one thing they always bumped up against was trust. [It wasn’t an easy decision, but since] we only had one member of that couple to bring to this show, [it was necessary].”

Shay Mitchell will always be a Pretty Little Liar – and this video proves it!

The 31-year-old actress had a chance to play with the fun filter on Snapchat – the half glass mirror mask – in support of The Perfectionists and shared the video on all her social media handles.

“I still got it guys 😬😉 #PLLThePerfectionists,” she captioned with the vid on Twitter.

We finally know just who Hayley Erin is playing on The Perfectionists!

Revealed in the premiere last night, the 23-year-old actress plays Taylor Hotchkiss, who was presumed to be dead in the premiere – but she’s not!

She’s actually in hiding and secretly working with her brother, Nolan, to expose their mother, Claire, for spying on basically everyone at the university, among other things.

Hayley shared with Teen Vogue that she was told Taylor was the new Alison DiLaurentis.

“I wondered, ‘Does that mean she’s alive? Am I going to be in flashbacks? How’s that going to work?’” Hayley shared. “I love when you just get hit in the face with it, and I was excited that I get to keep a secret.”

She adds that Taylor’s disappearance is “a big thing, it’s bigger than her and it’s bigger…than everyone that’s working towards solving this mystery.”

“She’s got her moral code that she follows,” Hayley continued about Taylor. “She’s so freaking smart and it’s so fun to play a character that’s really dynamic. On the surface, she can be a little prickly. She’s not so concerned about what everyone is always thinking about her now that she’s shed the pressure of being a perfectionist. She’s got a lot going on.”

So, what’s next for her? “Someone eventually figures it out and finds her and tries to convince her that she can reintegrate,” Hayley shared with TVLine. “Even when you think you know Taylor’s secrets, there are secrets beneath those secrets. That’s what makes her really dangerous. You don’t know if you can trust her.”

The Perfectionists just debuted on Freeform tonight and Nolan, the son of Beacon Heights University’s founder, Claire, was murdered on the campus.

You’re probably wondering just how Nolan is killed in the books of the same name from Sara Shepard, right?

While he ended up impaled on a fence by the end of the premiere.

In the book, the central characters are Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker, who really aren’t friends in the beginning. But, they have a little John Tucker Must Die moment and come together when they realize how they’ve each been wronged by Nolan in the past.

They jokingly plot to kill him, but never really intended to go through with it. But then, just as they discussed, he’s dead in the same way.
