Cameron Boyce's Family Know He Would Be 'Beyond Proud' of Epilepsy Awareness Campaign

Cameron Boyce‘s parents know he would be proud of their efforts to raise epilepsy awareness since his passing.

In the five months since the 20-year-old actor’s death, Victor and Libby Boyce have started The Cameron Boyce Foundation, teamed up with the Epilepsy Foundation to help end Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy and contributed to many other causes.

“I think he would be beyond proud. I think he would just be blown away because he was always sort of the one in front of the camera. And I know there are a few times, for example, that he would pull me in, in front of the camera for anything, and I couldn’t speak at all. But he’s kind of coming through me, right now, in a way that I think is incredible,” Libby explained to People.

She continued, “We just have an incredible amount of responsibility to move the needle on the epilepsy front and bring it out from the shadows…We’ve been very surprised and pleased at the reach we’ve been able to have in speaking about epilepsy. We really had no idea that we could impact lives with our voices. Cameron did that. We didn’t do that. Nope. And so, we kind of jumped in feet first and we, just speaking about him and his impact on this world and what we’ve learned about epilepsy since he passed, I think has made a difference in many people’s lives in this world.”

Cameron Boyce's Parents Detail His Medical Condition Before His Passing

Cameron Boyce‘s parents are sharing more information about his medical condition before his untimely passing earlier this year.

Victor and Libby Boyce sat down with NBCLA in hopes to bring awareness to SUDEP – Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.

Cameron was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 17-years-old. He had a total of five seizures in the time between being 17 and when he passed. He had his first seizure when he had some friends sleeping over. It was early in the morning and they witnessed him,” Libby explained.

She went on to say that Cameron quickly recovered after the first seizure but doctors could not figure out the cause. After his second seizure a year later, he was officially diagnosed with epilepsy.

Victor added, “His cause of death was Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy…Two months after he passed, that was the first time I had ever heard of SUDEP.”

The couple hope that The Cameron Boyce Foundation will help further educate people about epilepsy and encourage research on the condition as well as provide support to the family of those affected.

Victor Boyce Recalls His Strongest Memory He Has of Cameron Boyce Following His Shocking Passing

Victor Boyce Recalls His Strongest Memory He Has of Cameron Boyce Following His Shocking Passing

Victor and Libby Boyce sat down for their first interview with Good Morning America this morning (August 15), just a month after their son, Cameron Boyce‘s unexpected death.

The two chatted with Robin Roberts about the legacy of their son and explained how Cameron‘s epilepsy didn’t present until his mid-teens.

Cameron had his first seizure at 16, “and then until he had his second one, he wasn’t considered as having epilepsy, and that was when he was 17, going on 18,” Libby shared. “He only ever had five seizures, and the fifth one is what — is the one that he died from.”

Victor added that physicians tried to solve what was causing his seizures, too. However, nothing ever showed.

“They tried to induce him to seize with strobe and different methods. Never seized. And he only ever had seizures while he slept,” he says.

Victor also shared his strongest memory of Cameron just before he died: “I was sitting on the couch, watching whatever, and I hear the door open … And he comes strolling in with his cup of juice or whatever he was drinking and he had just shaved because he had a little goatee and beard, and I was just so happy to see him. I gave him a big hug.”

“And it was just cool that, you know, here’s my now 20-year-old son, just drove up in his car from his house and he’s coming to visit me, and like, I’m thinking this is how it’s going to be. It’s going to be cool,” he said. “That’s my favorite memory right now, because it was the last time I saw him just, like, being an adult and doing his thing.”

Cameron Boyce's Parents, Victor & Libby, Give First Interview A Month After His Passing

Victor and Libby Boyce, the parents of late actor Cameron Boyce, are opening up about their son in a new interview with Good Morning America.

The two sat down with Robin Roberts on the program and opened up about how they had just had dinner with Cameron hours before his unexpected passing.

“The night he passed away, we were out to dinner with him just hours before,” Victor shared. “It was a completely normal, beautiful family night out to dinner.”

He added, “There was no indication that anything was wrong. I mean there was no way to know in hours my son would be dead. Like, it was just staggeringly crazy and horrible. And we were texting that night.”

He and Libby also opened up about how Cameron was truly finding his voice in his charity work.

“He loved life. This is, for me, the hardest thing. He was in a place where he was truly happy. I mean, Cameron was always happy. Never a negative thing came out of his mouth.”

Libby continued, “He was really getting into the charity stuff, really getting into what he wanted to do with his voice, which is what we always told him to do,” she said. “Use your voice. Use it to make positive in the world, and that’s what he was starting to do.”

You can see more of their interview on Good Morning America on Thursday, August 15th.
