OlderJulia Lester Shares Tearful, Heartwarming Reaction to Tony Award Nomination
Julia Lester is reacting to the exciting news of her first Tony Award nomination!
In case you missed it, the 23-year-old HSMTMTS star was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical at the upcoming awards show, for her work as Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods.
Hours after the nominations were revealed, Julia shared video of her watching the nominations ceremony and bursting into tears when her name was called.

“wtf do I even say about thissssss❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’m a Tony nominee and that’s actually a made up sentence ???? sorry idk how to be vulnerable on social media but just know I’m immensely grateful to the New York theatre community for welcoming me with open arms and cheering me on💃 thank you. thank you. THANK YOU,” Julia captioned her post, which also included photos of her and her co-stars/fellow nominees Sara Bareilles and Brian D’Arcy James, on and off stage.
In another statement, Julia expressed how her family would always watch and cheer for the nominees, as this is their theatre Super Bowl.
“I’m a theatre kid from a theatre family. The Tony’s are our Super Bowl. Every year when they roll around, we gather together to cheer on the nominees. Hearing my name in the mix this year was …. well, I’ll never find the right words to describe what this feels like,” she said, via Deadline. “I am so insanely grateful to the American Theatre Wing and the Tony Nominating Committee for recognizing not only my performance, but also our entire show with so many nominations. The first Broadway show I ever saw was at the St. James Theatre and to have my Broadway debut on that same stage was so surreal and full circle. Thank you to the entire Broadway community for being so welcoming to me and Little Red.”
