Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez and Dara Reneé have become close friends over the years, on and off the screen, and that really shows in the upcoming final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series!
The actors, who portray Ashlyn, Carlos and Kourtney, respectively, head into a new school year in the new episodes after returning from summer camp and some newfound fame thanks to the docu-series.
However, the effects of some things that were seen and heard in the docu-series take their toll as they return to East High, get to work on their fall musical (High School Musical 3) and the added presence of High School Musical 4: The Reunion filming at their school at the same time.
Ahead of the final season debuting, we spoke with the trio about the show, what their character’s future would like look in 10-15 years, songs they wanted to do but didn’t get to and what they would change about their character if they could.

The 23-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress is in attendance as a first time nominee!
Julia is nominated at this year’s awards show for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her role of Little Red Riding Hood in the Into the Woods revival.
She is up against fellow first time nominees Bonnie Milligan (Kimberly Akimbo), NaTasha Yvette Williams (Some Like It Hot) and Betsy Wolfe (& Juliet), as well as second-time nominee Ruthie Ann Miles (Sweeney Todd). Best of luck to all of the nominees!

Disney+ has finally given us an official first look at the upcoming fourth season, which is set to debut later this year.
Featured in the first look photos are returning stars Sofia Wylie, Joshua Bassett, Frankie Rodriguez, Dara Renee, Tony award nominee Julia Lester, Kate Reinders, Liamani Segura and Joe Serafini, as well as guest stars Kylie Cantrall and Matt Sato, and original HSM stars Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu!

Julia Lester points to her pin while attending the 2023 Tony Awards Meet The Nominees Press Event held at Sofitel New York on Thursday (May 4) in New York City.
The 23-year-old HSMTMTS actress received her first “Tony Nominee” pin and joined her fellow nominees for the press day event in celebration of their 2023 Tony Awards nominations.
She was joined by her Into the Woods co-stars Sara Bareilles and Brian D’Arcy James, who are also nominated, as well as director Lear deBessonet, producer Jordan Roth and Sound Designer Alex Neumann.
Julia was also seen meeting up with fellow Tony nominees Parade‘s Ben Platt and Shucked‘s Alex Newell and Kevin Cahoon.
Into the Woods came out with six total nominations for the upcoming Tonys, including the aforementioned acting noms, plus Best Direction of a Musical for Lear, Best Sound Design of a Musical for Alex and Scott Lehrer, and Best Revival of a Musical.
